LOS ANGELES, CA---*We're
talking Marion Jones - she's talking about suing if she's not allowed
to compete in the upcoming Athens Olympics this summer.
Is she saying that even with her failed test for steroids, she
should still be allowed to represent in the Games when NO ONE
ELSE is?
Unless her only possible excuse that she was sitting around steroid
users and their steroid breath got all over her hair and clothes
is believed - I think the USOC better start looking for some lady
runners without a mild
juice content.
*With all this steroid talk these days, isn't it kinda nice that
when people
are talking about the juice, it's not followed up with something
about heads
being cut off and a white Bronco?
*CBS announced last month that Deion Sanders wasn't coming back
to the
network's NFL pregame show - three points:
1) Whew! I don't really watch that show, but when I have and Deion's
talking, I'm feeling like that little girl from "Poltergeist"
- I know I'm
not supposed to be watching, but I couldn't take my eyes away
until it was
too late.
2) CBS WAS PAYING HIM ONE MILLION DOLLARS?! After that I shook
my head like
a Polaroid picture - for a really long time.
3) Prime Time says that he's now looking into having his own TV
interview
show - three words for you out there - The Magic Hour...
...stop this before it becomes reality.
*With the Calgary Flames now in the Stanley Cup finals, one publication
has
team captain Jarome Iginla tabbed as the new face of the NHL.
Two years too late, but it's better than never.
*This is a late joy that I've found, but catch "The Parkers"
in reruns.
I'm not saying this because Dorien Wilson is my neighbor out
here in L.A.,
but because it was a very funny show that nobody could chastise
for being a
caricature or a minstrel show. It was just good entertainment.
*Derek Jeter has been in a slump since the beginning of the season,
and the
last time he was in something this bad was when an ex-girlfriend
was
stalking him.
Hmmm - can we put out a citizen's APB out on C-A-R-E-Y. First
name
M-A-R-I-A-H.
Just want her in for questioning, that's all.
*On first sight, Larry Fitzgerald is all of that and a bag of
pork rinds -
too bad we might not know that until the Arizona Cardinals get
a legit
quarterback.
*Jason Jackson is now (and has been for a long while) the host
of The Jax
Show on ESPN Radio 1410 in Hartford, Connecticut.
Everything is good in the world again.
*The Anaheim Angels (where all good Hispanic players know they
can find
work) signed Raul Mondesi, who was cut by the Pittsburgh Pirates
earlier in
the season.
The other interesting problem Mondesi had was getting sued back
in the
Dominican Republic by former player Mario Guerrero (who first
filed suit in
1998), who said Mondesi and other promised him one percent of
their earnings
in response to teaching them baseball skills - which came out
to 640 thou,
which Guerrero won.
First, what kind of baseball skills are worth nearly a million
dollars in
scratch.
Number two, Mondesi has been on six teams since 1998. Shouldn't
he have
gotten a rebate deal just in case the "skills" didn't
exactly help his
career - as in this case? I guess I couldn't get my money back
after "Van
Helsing", so I guess I see the court's point in this regard.
*Happy Memorial Day - especially to all of the guys of the old
369th.
*Oh, by the way, it's been almost a year since Evander Holyfield
has talked
about becoming heavyweight champion of the world again.
This 2004 has a little promise after all.
