African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame Founder, Arif Khatib and Hall of Fame Baseball Legend Tony Oliva are all smiles at a recent event.

The event, which will be presented in association with KidKesty Productions of Palm Springs, will pay tribute to eight of the African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame’s spouses and partners with the “Forgotten Heroes Award.” 

Internationally-respected  African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame founder, Arif Khatib, says he realized that, at many of the organization’s lavish events, the spouses and partners of the Hall’s recipients, would stand graciously by their side year after year, but many times go without so much as a brief mention.

Khatib worked relentlessly to help bring recognition to the spouses of many of the Hall’s inductees.

“It is such a treat and I feel, our duty to give praise to the silent soldiers who have paid their dues and contributed to the success of our Hall of Fame recipients,” Khatib said.

Among the distinguished honorees are Alicia Gwynn, wife of MLB legend, San Diego Padres' Tony Gwynn and Judy Pace, widow of former Major League baseball player, Curt Flood.

Pace was a pioneer of the 60s and 70s and the first African American actress to land a contract with Columbia Studios 20th Century Fox.  Pace has over one hundred television and film credits.

Other honorees include Charlene Carlos, wife of former U.S. track and field legend, Dr. John Carlos, Barbara Flores, wife of former NFL head coach, Tom Flores and Henrietta Gardner-Gonzales, wife of former ATP tennis legend Pancho Gonzales.

A special military award will also be presented to Len Kestenbaum.

Alicia Gwynn is a mother of two, a CEO of her own company and a community leader to many.

After attending San Diego State University and National University, Gwynn became an entrepreneur shortly after completing her higher education, opening her own sports marketing firm in 1993.

The firm was an official licensee of Major League Baseball with sports memorabilia nationwide. The business grew, and before long, Mrs. Gwynn integrated many other well-known business entities to her portfolio.

Gwynn’s business ventures have been profitable and nothing short of inspiring.

"I owe my wife big-time for being there for me. I could not have attained the success I did without her. I am so grateful for her support over the years, said husband, Tony.
