The Russians had dominated women's tennis, but in reality few if any of them had the game that either Venus or Serena Williams had. This Wimbledon proved that as Venus edged Serena 7-5, 6-4 to capture her fifth Wimbledon crown.

Venus lost 10 out of the first 11 points and it looked like it was going to be a rout, but then she got her serve back and never really was contested on serve by her younger sister.

Venus averaged 111 mph on her serve and had only four double faults. She didn't lose a set during this entire Wimbledon.

The match lasted 1:51 which was a healthy time for a finals match between the two sisters. Too often, Serena had dominated these finals contests making short shrift of Venus.

The sisters are now 8-8 all-time against each other.

Richard Williams, the architect of their greatness ever since their young days in Compton, California could not watch and left for the United States on Friday. The rest of the family was there but obviously had little rooting interest.

The match highlighted the absurdity of their seedings. Venus was seeded sixth and Serena seventh even in light of the fact that world No. 1 Justine Henin had retired this year.

Due to their seedings they were often relegated to outer courts during their matches. It is clear that both Williams sister is back. They will be playing in the Olympics for the United States and will then most likely be favored for the U.S. Open crown in August along with Maria Sharapova.

Venus now has the most Wimbledon wins behind Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, and Steffi Graf.
